mBLEChat Privacy Policy

Thank you for choosing mBLEChat ("we", "our", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the mBLEChat mobile application (the "App").

By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

1. What the App Does

mBLEChat lets nearby phones exchange text messages directly over Bluetooth Low Energy, without internet access, a mobile network, or servers. When a recipient is out of range, other nearby phones running mBLEChat can relay the message until it is delivered.

Bluetooth range is limited and delivery depends on other phones being nearby. The App is not an emergency communication service and should not be relied on for safety-critical communication.

2. Information We Collect

We do not collect any personal data. The App has no servers, does not request internet access, and contains no analytics, tracking, or advertising. We never receive your messages, contacts, name, or any other information.

3. Information Stored on Your Device

• Messages: Messages you send and receive are stored only on your device.
• Nearby devices: A list of mBLEChat devices you have seen or chatted with.
• Display name: The name you choose (by default, your device's Bluetooth name).
• Encryption keys: Keys used to encrypt your conversations.

You can delete old messages at any time within the App. Uninstalling the App removes all of this data from your device.

4. Information Shared With Nearby Devices

To work, the App exchanges data directly with other phones running mBLEChat over Bluetooth:

• Display name and an app-specific device identifier, so nearby users can see and message you. This identifier is not your phone number or hardware ID.
• Messages, which are end-to-end encrypted (ECDH P-256 key agreement and AES-GCM). Phones that relay a message cannot read it, and may hold it temporarily until it can be delivered.

This data never passes through us or any third party.

5. Permissions

• Nearby devices (Bluetooth): to discover and connect to nearby mBLEChat phones.
• Location (Android 11 and older only): required by Android for Bluetooth scanning on these versions. The App does not access, store, or share your location.
• Notifications: to alert you when a message arrives.
• Foreground service and battery optimization exemption: to keep receiving and relaying messages in the background.

6. We Do Not

• Require an account, phone number, or email address
• Upload your messages or any data to a server
• Sell, rent, or share your information with third parties
• Use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs

7. Data Security

Messages are encrypted end-to-end before leaving your device. Data stored on your device is protected by your device's own security features.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
